Throughout my 15 years as a professor in NY, the most rewarding thing for me was teaching students how to be creative thinkers regardless of the class subject. I love technical skills also, they empower us and expand our visual language, but they must serve our conceptual intent. I loved constructing assignment that challenged different aspects of the creative process as well as the critiques where we examined their answers to the problems.
